The University of York has launched a £35 million Deep Geothermal Energy Project to utilize heated water from 2.5 miles underground for campus heating, significantly reducing fossil fuel use by 78%. Funded by government support, the initiative includes drilling two boreholes and may also provide heating for local communities and generate electricity.
