US Army Contracts Hanwha Defense for 58-Caliber Cannon Integration into K9 Howitzer

DEFENSE

The US Army has contracted Hanwha Defense USA to integrate a 58-caliber cannon into the K9 self-propelled howitzer, enhancing its artillery capabilities and extending its effective range from 30 kilometers to up to 70 kilometers. This initiative, part of a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement, will be overseen by the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Armaments Center, with other companies like BAE Systems and Rheinmetall also involved in system demonstrations. Hanwha previously proposed the K9A2 variant alongside the K10 ammunition resupply vehicle to improve fire rates.
