The US Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, and Weeks Marine received an Award of Merit for Safety Excellence from Engineering News Record. The award acknowledges their safety measures during the Fire Island to Montauk Point Project, where approximately 1.275 million cubic yards of sand were placed in Westhampton Beach and Cupsogue.
The $2.7 billion project aims to restore coastal resiliency and reduce flood risk after Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Upcoming phases include home-elevations for 4,400 structures in flood-prone areas.
