U.S. Army Corps Begins New Study on Potential Spill Risks at Donlin Gold Mine in Alaska
DEFENSE
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is launching a new environmental impact study on potential spill risks at the Donlin Gold mine in Alaska, following a court ruling that found the previous study insufficient.
This assessment will focus on the proposed dam designed to contain mine tailings, prompted by concerns from six tribal governments about the environmental impact. Public comments are open until February 24, with a final decision expected by May 2027.
