US Army Corps of Engineers Completes Interim Stables for The Old Guard in Under One Year

DEFENSE

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) completed interim stables for the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment's Caisson Detachment in ten months, from concept to operational readiness.

The facility, designed as a removable 10,000-square-foot structure adjacent to Arlington National Cemetery, supports modernization efforts and addresses the need for temporary housing during renovations of historic stables. The project faced constraints including environmental regulations and a strict timeline, necessitating innovative procurement and construction methodologies.

JBW Federal was selected for its innovative elevated platform design that minimized site disturbance and allowed for rapid installation. The completed facility includes 26 horse stalls, office space, and specialized wash areas, all designed for safety and operational efficiency. Substantial completion was achieved in early November 2025, with full operations expected by December 2025.
