US Army Corps of Engineers Operates Specialized Tunnel System for Railroad Cars
DEFENSE
The US Army Corps of Engineers has developed a tunnel system equipped with special barges and rails for transporting railroad cars. This system includes tug boats marked with US Army insignia operating within a large cave or tunnel.
The tunnel features rails leading down a grade into the river, and dredging operations were conducted in front of the tunnel's steel and concrete doors. Security for these operations was provided by a team of prior service personnel employed by an outside contractor, with personnel transported to and from the site in buses with obscured windows and a solid partition between the driver and passengers.
