U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Partners with Tennessee Agencies for Peery's Mill Dam Removal

DEFENSE

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District has signed a project partnership agreement with the State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency to remove Peery's Mill Dam from the Little River in Walland, Tennessee.

The project aims to enhance safety and provide ecological benefits to the river. Alongside the dam removal, instream features will be added to address erosion at Peery's Mill Park. A joint Environmental Assessment and feasibility study conducted in 2023 found no significant environmental impacts from the removal.

The project will improve habitat for nine endangered fish and mussel species. The Corps is tasked with developing plans and specifications for the removal, conducting environmental and cultural surveys, and implementing the removal.
