U.S. Defense Logistics Agency Grants 6K Energy $1.9M for NMC721 Cathode Material Development

DEFENSE

6K Energy has received a $1.9 million grant from the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) for its Battery Network Program III. The funding will support the development of advanced single-crystal NMC721 cathode powders using 6K's UniMelt® microwave plasma technology.

Over the 12-month program, 6K Energy will focus on the scaled synthesis, post-processing optimization, and performance validation of SC NMC721, with testing conducted in partnership with a U.S. lithium-ion cell manufacturer. This material is designed for the U.S. cell voltage range of 2.5-4.35 V and aims to meet defense-related performance standards. The UniMelt platform offers a sustainable and efficient method for producing battery materials, potentially reducing energy consumption and processing costs by up to 50%.
