On September 8, 2025, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) issued a request for applications from American companies to develop AI data centers alongside advanced energy projects at the Idaho National Laboratory.

This initiative follows a July executive order aimed at expediting AI data center infrastructure and designates four federal sites for such endeavors. The DOE is particularly interested in proposals that include long-term leasing agreements and prioritize innovative energy generation and storage technologies, such as advanced nuclear reactors and enhanced geothermal systems.
