U.S. Navy and Coast Guard Update Environmental Impact Statement for Northwest Military Readiness Activities

DEFENSE

The U.S. Navy and Coast Guard are revising the 2015 Environmental Impact Statement to evaluate the effects of ongoing military activities in the Northwest, inviting public and tribal comments during a 45-day scoping period.

Proposed operations, which include training and testing in offshore regions of Washington, Oregon, Northern California, and Southeast Alaska, aim to secure federal permits under the Marine Mammal Protection Act and consult under the Endangered Species Act for continued operations beyond November 2027. A Draft Supplemental EIS is anticipated in Fall 2026, accompanied by public outreach efforts.
