U.S. Navy Breaks Ground on Engineering Test Facility for Trident II D5LE2 Missile System

On February 4, 2026, the U.S. Navy held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Engineering Test Facility at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, essential for developing the Trident II D5LE2 missile system. The $166 million contract was awarded to Walsh Federal and completion is expected by January 2028.
The facility will enhance infrastructure for testing and prototyping. Additionally, a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a renovated sonobuoy building marked the start of a multi-phase modernization plan for aging structures at the Naval Ordnance Test Unit.
