U.S. Navy Plans Replacement of MK 20 Electro-Optical Gun Targeting System for Surface Warships

DEFENSE

The U.S. Navy plans to replace the MK 20 electro-optical sensor systems and MK 46 Optical Sight System used on surface warships. The Naval Surface Warfare Center in Crane, Indiana, has issued a notice for the Electro-Optic/Infrared Sight System project, aiming for competitive proposals.

The new systems will interface with the Navy Gun Weapon System and support Ticonderoga-class cruisers, Arleigh Burke class destroyers, and Coast Guard vessels. Selection of a prototype may occur as early as October 2026, with deliveries by April 2027.
