U.S. Organizations to Recover WWII TBD-1 Devastator from Jaluit Atoll in Marshall Islands

DEFENSE

The U.S. Naval History and Heritage Command, in collaboration with the Air and Sea Heritage Foundation, is set to recover a WWII Douglas TBD-1 Devastator from Jaluit Atoll in the Marshall Islands, where it has been submerged for over 80 years.

This aircraft, significant for its role in early Pacific operations, will be the first TBD-1 Devastator displayed at the future U.S. Navy National Museum in Washington, D.C. The recovery process will involve multiple stages, including coordination, archaeological recovery, cleaning, and eventual public exhibition.
