DEFENSE
The USS Iwo Jima will enter a two-year maintenance period at BAE Systems Maritime Solutions Norfolk, affecting its active duty status. The $204.1 million initial contract could rise to $255.8 million based on options exercised, with completion expected in February 2028.
The ship recently participated in Operation Absolute Resolve, where it transported deposed Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro to the U.S. The Iwo Jima is recognized for its role as a floating military base and has become the first amphibious ship to feature USO afloat recharge centers.
