The Colorado Energy Office has awarded Vail a $1.78 million tax credit for a geothermal project at the Vail Public Library. This initiative is part of a long-term plan to reduce town-wide emissions by over 10,000 metric tons annually and aims for an 80% reduction by 2050.
The project includes connecting the library to a geothermal bore field and the Dobson Ice Arena's waste-heat loop. The total project cost is estimated at $6 million, with completion expected by fall 2027.
