Vandenberg Space Force Base is collaborating with Brigham Young University and California State University Bakersfield on the ECOBOOM program to study rocket launch acoustics and sonic booms. Since June 2024, the initiative has collected data from 23 rocket launches to assess noise impacts on local communities, revealing seasonal variations in sonic boom patterns. The findings aim to balance national defense needs with environmental stewardship, while also supporting conservation efforts for local wildlife.
