Venice Council Denies Townhouse Project Access to Gene Green Road, Explores South Jetty Parking Lot Restoration
The Venice City Council unanimously rejected a proposal to modify the Toscana Isles planned-unit development, denying access for a 50-home townhouse project to Gene Green Road, a private road used by trucks. This decision followed a recommendation from the Venice Planning Commission.
Residents expressed concerns about potential flooding issues from the development's proposed drainage changes. Wisdom Properties LLC has the option to apply for access from Knights Trail Road, but challenges remain.
Additionally, city staff will investigate reopening part of the South Jetty parking lot for public use after its closure following Hurricane Helene. U.S. Rep.
Greg Steube requested $100 million from the Army Corps of Engineers for restoration efforts, although this amount is preliminary. The council approved a staff query to explore access options without allocating funds for consultants.
