Vietnam's Defence Ministry Launches $300M Phan Thiết Military Airport in Lâm Đồng

DEFENSE

The Ministry of National Defence of Vietnam inaugurated the Phan Thiết Army Airport project in Mũi Né Ward, Lâm Đồng Province, with an investment of over $300 million (VNĐ7.92 trillion). The airport will serve dual purposes: enhancing national defence and supporting future civil aviation.

Built to Military Grade I and ICAO 4E standards, the facility covers 439 hectares and includes a 3,050m-long runway. It can accommodate modern military and large commercial aircraft, supporting two air regiments with over 1,000 personnel.

The airport commenced operations with training flights starting August 13, 2024. It is expected to handle around two million passengers annually by 2030, contributing to regional development and socio-economic growth. Minister Phan Văn Giang emphasized the airport's strategic importance for defence and military training amidst challenges faced during construction.
