Wien Energie has launched a 120-ton heat pump at the Spittelau waste incineration plant, which will provide heating and hot water for 16,000 households in Vienna by utilizing waste heat from flue gas cleaning. The €40 million investment aims to enhance energy efficiency at the facility, which is now the most efficient waste incineration plant in Central Europe. Looking ahead, Wien Energie plans to significantly increase renewable heat production by 2040, focusing on various sources including waste incineration and deep geothermal energy.
