World Bank Approves $350 Million Project for Indonesia's Waste Management Improvements
The World Bank approved the $350 million Local Service Delivery Improvement Project (LSDP) to enhance waste management in Indonesia, benefiting over 15 million people and protecting 10 million from climate risks. The project aims to strengthen solid waste services and infrastructure, create green jobs, and reduce methane emissions as part of Indonesia's goal of achieving zero waste by 2050-2060.
The LSDP will support 30 local governments and promote national waste reduction targets through reforms in waste management practices, including source segregation and financial sustainability. It includes performance-based grants to incentivize better services and capacity building through training and knowledge sharing, contributing to sustainable urban development and a circular economy.
