World Bank Approves $815 Million Financing for Bhutan's Dorjilung Hydroelectric Power Project

The World Bank Group has approved an $815 million financing package for Bhutan's Dorjilung Hydroelectric Power Project, which will enhance hydropower generation and regional clean energy trade. Expected to produce over 4,500 GWh of clean electricity annually, the 1,125 MW project will increase Bhutan's energy production and exports while addressing seasonal energy gaps. The initiative is anticipated to create thousands of jobs and bolster local infrastructure in the Mongar and Lhuentse Districts.
