Yakima River Water Flows Freely in Richland After Causeway Removal

DEFENSE

Water is now flowing freely through the Yakima River in Richland following the removal of a section of the 500-foot-long causeway at Bateman Island, which had blocked the river for 85 years. The $1.2 million project, awarded to Pipkin Inc. by the Army Corps of Engineers, aims to enhance salmon migration and improve river health, with completion expected by February 2024. Access to Bateman Island will remain limited to boat or swimming.
