ABB Delivers Power System for UK's First AI Data Center in Surrey

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

ABB has completed the delivery of the first turnkey uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system at an AI-focused data center in Surrey, UK. The system, with a capacity of 25 MVA, is designed for high-density computing, meeting the increased power demands of artificial intelligence applications.

This initiative supports Ark Data Centres' expansion plans, including the installation of next-generation GPU systems for large-scale AI training and inference. The ABB UPS system, HiPerGuard, integrates with UniGear switchgear and Zenon ZEE600 control systems, achieving a 98% efficiency rate at high load. The project, a collaboration between Ark, ABB, and installation firm JCA, addresses the growing electricity needs of AI infrastructure, emphasizing the importance of reliable power supply for operational efficiency and environmental considerations.
