Addis Energy Secures $8.3 Million for Ammonia Production Development
Addis Energy has closed an $8.3 million oversubscribed seed round to advance subsurface ammonia production using feedstock materials. The company is currently at the laboratory stage, developing chemical reactors that mimic subsurface conditions by utilizing iron and natural geological heat and pressure.
Earlier this year, Addis received $4.5 million in funding from ARPA-E, part of the US Department of Energy. Founded in January 2025 from research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Addis aims to find alternatives to the Haber Bosch process. In the upcoming months, the company will conduct a geological mapping exercise across the US to identify suitable subsurface conditions and prepare for its first pilot field test.
