Tecnimont Faces Legal Dispute with EuroChem Amid Saudi Energy Project Expansion
Tecnimont, a major engineering contractor in Saudi Arabia, is involved in significant projects in Jubail that support the country’s Vision 2030, including the $2 billion SATORP refinery expansions and a $500 million contract for polypropylene units under the APOC project. However, a legal dispute with Russian fertiliser producer EuroChem, following Tecnimont's withdrawal from an ammonia-urea project in Russia due to sanctions, has escalated.
EuroChem is pursuing claims exceeding $2.5 billion and has requested restrictions on transactions linked to Tecnimont, affecting amounts estimated at $115-118 million. Additionally, Russian courts have imposed penalties nearing €700 million. While Saudi projects are not legally connected to this dispute, Tecnimont's corporate structure may face operational challenges, including potential asset freezes and banking scrutiny, impacting project execution in Saudi Arabia.
