Altarea Plans Data Center on Former Art de Vivre Mall Site in Orgeval by 2028
Altarea is set to transform the former Art de Vivre shopping center site in Orgeval, Yvelines, into a large data center by 2028. The site has been inactive for over six years and spans seven hectares. The mayor of Orgeval, Hervé Charnallet, confirmed the project's focus on data storage and computing rather than a shopping center, which is deemed unviable due to market saturation in the area.
Altarea is currently preparing the project for approval from local authorities, including the Grand Paris Seine et Oise Urban Community. Concerns about noise, costs, access, and environmental impact have been raised, but potential benefits include job creation and increased tax revenue.
The data center could also supply heat to 900 homes and local facilities, promoting sustainable energy use. Some existing businesses will be affected, with plans for a hotel to remain in the area.
