Alterra Development Proposes Data Center and Gas Generation Plant in Marshall, Michigan
Alterra Development has signed a purchase agreement with the City of Marshall to acquire land for a technology park, which will include a gas generation plant and data center. The Local Development Finance Authority (LDFA) approved the sale of 270 acres for $1.12 million on October 30, 2023.
The project is expected to create 300 to 500 skilled jobs and generate several million dollars in tax revenue. Alterra is conducting due diligence studies and anticipates completion by the third quarter of 2026.
The development will involve wetland mitigation and land consolidation to respect the integrity of Brooks Industrial Park and Brooks Nature Park. Concerns were raised about water usage and electricity rates, to which Alterra proposed a closed-loop liquid cooling system and confirmed that the gas generation plant will support the energy grid.
