Amazon Web Services Plans $100 Million Data Center in Covington, Georgia
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is developing a data center in Covington, Georgia, with a $100 million agreement to construct a water treatment and cooling facility. This facility will support the data center along Alcovy Road, as confirmed in a December 15 city council meeting.
The project aims to generate tax revenues for local services, and it will utilize a water system designed to limit usage to six percent of the year, relying primarily on outside air for cooling. Additionally, AWS plans to implement a reclaimed water system that will preserve over 45 million gallons of freshwater annually.
This initiative is part of a broader $11 billion investment in Georgia. AWS previously acquired 430 acres for $36 million in January 2024. Universal Planning LLC has also filed a development application for the Gregory Road Data Center, which will occupy approximately 213 acres and could see an investment of up to $5.7 billion.
