Bay City Proposes Guidelines for Data Center Developments Ahead of January 2026 Commission Meeting

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Bay City Mayor Chris Girard has proposed a resolution to establish guidelines for data center developments, set for consideration by the Bay City Commission on January 5, 2026. The resolution aims to address concerns regarding large hyperscale data centers by defining zoning and operational standards, including limits on facility size, power, and water usage, while distinguishing between different types of data centers. Until new standards are adopted, projects exceeding community thresholds will not be approved, and large centers will be deemed incompatible unless specifically authorized.
