Bihar's Chief Minister Inspects Phulwaria Reservoir and Nuclear Power Plant Site in Nawada
Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar visited the Phulwaria reservoir, supplying fluoride-free drinking water to 90 villages over the past five years. The reservoir, built between 1979 and 1988, supports irrigation across 17,625 hectares and is set to host Bihar's first nuclear power plant, approved by the Centre under a joint venture between NPCIL and NTPC.
The new facility will utilize a small modular reactor (SMR) with a capacity of 2,000 MW, sourcing heavy water from the reservoir. Additionally, a floating solar plant generating 10 MW is being installed.
Kumar reviewed a 220-acre industrial zone near the reservoir, with 81 acres of government land and 139.48 acres requiring acquisition from private owners. He also distributed bank loans totaling Rs 1.29 crore to 137 self-help groups and highlighted ongoing social security initiatives.
