Blykalla Secures $50 Million for SEALER Lead-Cooled Reactor Development in Sweden
Blykalla, a Stockholm-based nuclear startup, has raised $50 million to advance its lead-cooled small modular reactor, SEALER, which is designed for stable, low-carbon baseload power. The funding round was co-led by Oklo Inc, Norrsken Launcher, and ARMADA Investment AG, with contributions from KDDI and other investors.
The capital will enhance testing at its Oskarshamn reactor site, aid in engineering for its initial nuclear units, and facilitate commercial and regulatory preparations for SEALER's deployment in Sweden. Blykalla, which emerged from KTH Royal Institute of Technology research, focuses on providing reliable power for energy-intensive industries.
The company has intensified collaboration with Oklo on technical development, aiming to streamline supply chains and reduce development timelines. With this funding, Blykalla is transitioning from pilot-scale projects to its first commercial reactor deployment amidst increasing demand for nuclear energy in Europe's power landscape.
