Blykalla Secures $50 Million to Advance Small Modular Reactor Development in Sweden

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTUREFUSION & ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWER

Blykalla has raised $50 million to accelerate the industrialization and commercialization of its lead-cooled advanced reactor, SEALER. The funding round, led by Oklo, Norrsken Launcher, and Armada Investment, aims to validate and scale up the test reactor in Oskarshamn.

Investors include figures from AI data centers, such as KDDI and CoreWeave co-founders. Blykalla's reactors utilize liquid lead for cooling, differentiating them from traditional water-cooled reactors.

The company plans to build 1,000 reactors by 2050, with a test facility costing approximately €30 million, supported by government funding. The collaboration with Oklo includes joint development on licensing, components, and supply chains, enhancing efficiency and reducing risks as both companies approach operational deployment.
