Brazil Launches Jaci Supercomputer to Enhance Weather and Climate Forecasting
The Brazilian government has inaugurated the Jaci supercomputer at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in Cachoeira Paulista, São Paulo. Jaci, designed for scientific applications, replaces the Tupã supercomputer and aims to enhance weather and climate forecasting capabilities.
The new system will provide faster, more detailed forecasts and improve climate simulation accuracy, benefiting environmental monitoring and disaster warning systems. This launch marks the first milestone in the RISC Project, which seeks to modernize INPE's Scientific Data Centre by 2028.
The project includes new high-performance equipment, infrastructure expansion, and a photovoltaic plant for energy efficiency. Jaci will also enable the operation of MONAN, a new model for forecasting environmental conditions in South America.
