Caterpillar's power and energy division has emerged as its fastest-growing sales unit, driven by rising demand from data centers for artificial intelligence projects. The company expects annual sales growth of 5% to 7% through 2030 and is investing $725 million in its Lafayette, Indiana plant to enhance production capacity for piston-driven and turbine engines. CEO Joe Creed noted that the surge in generative AI represents a pivotal moment for the company, as electricity demand at data centers is projected to triple by 2035.
