The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors approved industrial use on 2,000 acres near Tonopah on December 10, moving the project forward. Developed by Arizona Land Consulting and venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya, the site aims to support 1 gigawatt of power for AI development.
Two petitions against the project, signed by 100 residents, raised concerns about its impact on local quality of life and wildlife. Buckeye officials withdrew their opposition after reaching agreements with Arizona Land Consulting to mitigate environmental impacts.
The Hassayampa Ranch site is part of broader west Valley developments, including Teravalis and the Belmont smart city project. Arizona Land Consulting plans to file zoning applications within 30 to 60 days.
