Cherokee Nation Establishes Task Force to Assess Data Center Impacts on Reservation
DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE
Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. has signed an executive order creating a task force to study the environmental and economic impacts of data centers on the tribe's 7,000-square-mile reservation in Oklahoma. Led by Christina Justice, the nine-member group will deliver a report by June 30, 2026, addressing construction status, environmental concerns, economic opportunities, and policy advocacy. This initiative follows earlier efforts on data sovereignty, emphasizing the importance of balancing technological growth with cultural values.
