Councilwoman Claims 'Swatting' Incident Amid $12 Billion Data Center Controversy in New Carlisle, Indiana

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Councilwoman Amy Drake of the St. Joseph County Council in New Carlisle, Indiana, reported that her family was 'swatted' during a meeting where a $12 billion data center proposal was denied planning permission.

Drake stated that at 2 am, while she was still at the meeting, officers conducted a welfare check on her family. The council, which postponed a decision on the rezoning application for a 1,057-acre parcel, faces backlash from citizens regarding the project's anonymous end-user, initially rumored to be Meta, which denied involvement.

The land is being purchased by New Carlisle 25 Developer LLC, linked to another facility in Pennsylvania. Tensions over data center developments are rising nationally, fueled by the demand for AI-related infrastructure, with concerns about environmental impacts and governance issues being raised by residents and officials alike.
