DOE Awards $800 Million to Holtec and TVA for Small Modular Reactor Development
FUSION & ADVANCED NUCLEAR POWER
The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $800 million in grants, split between Holtec and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), to develop light-water small modular reactors (SMRs). Holtec plans to construct two SMR-300 reactors in Michigan, while TVA will focus on early site work and design for a GE Vernova Hitachi BWRX-300 reactor in Tennessee, both expected to advance nuclear technology with fewer regulatory hurdles. TVA is also prioritizing supply chain development and workforce readiness in collaboration with industry partners.
