Dutch Research Council Launches €6.1 Million Call for Advanced Nuclear Reactor Research
The Dutch Research Council (NWO) has initiated a €6.1 million funding call to support research on innovative nuclear reactors and advanced nuclear fuels, as part of the Netherlands' strategy to enhance nuclear energy as a low-carbon complement to renewables. The call invites public-private consortia to explore Generation IV nuclear reactors, advanced modular reactors, and micro-reactors, focusing on safety, materials performance, and monitoring technologies.
Industry collaboration is required, with companies expected to co-fund at least 5%. NWO will hold preparatory workshops in March 2026 to assist in proposal development, with a submission deadline in June 2026. This initiative is part of a broader nuclear energy research programme funded by the Ministry of Climate and Green Growth and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, aiming to build a strong national knowledge base for future nuclear development.
