Holtec Delays Restart of Palisades Nuclear Plant in Michigan to Late March 2026

Holtec International has postponed the restart of the Palisades nuclear power plant in Michigan from December 2023 to late March 2026 due to necessary component upgrades and ongoing inspections of cracked cooling tubes. The 800-MW plant, decommissioned since 2022, plans to add two small modular reactors and has secured a $1.52 billion loan from the U.S.
Energy Department, aiming to support U.S. energy needs and extend its operating license to 2051. Other nuclear projects in Pennsylvania and Iowa are also facing similar challenges in their restart efforts.
