Holtec Submits NRC License Application for Palisades SMR-300 Construction Permit

Holtec International has submitted a licensing application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for the construction of two small modular reactors, Pioneer 1 and 2, at the Palisades Energy Center in Michigan.
The NRC is expected to review the application by December 31, 2026, with plans for completion of the SMR-300 plant by the early 2030s. Additionally, Holtec aims to restart the existing Palisades unit by early 2026 and plans to apply for a license renewal to extend its operation to 2051.
