HPE Refurbishes Hawk Supercomputer at Stuttgart's HLRS to Reduce E-Waste and CO2 Emissions
DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has begun refurbishing the Hawk supercomputer at Stuttgart's High-Performance Computing Center (HLRS) to mitigate e-waste and CO2 emissions, preventing approximately 13.7 tons of e-waste and 2,800 tons of CO2. Over 90% of Hawk's infrastructure will be repurposed, with various buyers already identified for its components, as the refurbished IT market continues to grow in sustainability and cost-effectiveness. The dismantling process, which started in summer 2024, follows Hawk's replacement by the Hunter supercomputer.
