IREC Leads SUPORT Consortium to Develop Zero-Emission Marine Fuel from Wastewater and CO₂

SYNTHETIC FUELS

IREC, in collaboration with the Port of Barcelona, Aigües de Barcelona, Cetaqua, and CIMNE, has validated a process to produce sustainable maritime fuels from wastewater and CO₂. This innovation aligns with the Port of Barcelona's Energy Transition Plan aimed at decarbonising port activities.

The technology integrates co-electrolysis and Fischer-Tropsch catalytic reaction, improving efficiency for producing zero-emission synthetic hydrocarbons compatible with conventional fuels. The project demonstrates the feasibility of using waste and CO₂ for sustainable fuel production in maritime transport.
