Itochu Corporation and its subsidiary Itochu Techno-Solutions have signed a memorandum of understanding with Castrol to promote liquid cooling solutions for data centers in Japan. Castrol will supply cooling fluids and technical services, while Itochu will focus on market development and commercial pathways.

Itochu Techno-Solutions will provide comprehensive solutions including design and operations. The partnership aims to address the increasing electricity demand and heat loads in data centers due to the rise of generative AI and high-performance computing.

Liquid cooling solutions are expected to enhance energy efficiency and support higher rack densities in alignment with national priorities. Itochu Techno-Solutions operates six data centers in Japan, primarily leasing space after selling five data centers to Stonepeak's Digital Edge in 2021.
