Kazakhstan Plans Data Center Valley in Pavlodar with Focus on Coal Power Investment
DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE
Kazakhstan plans to develop a 'data center valley' in Pavlodar, leveraging its substantial coal reserves from the Ekibastuz basin to support energy-intensive operations. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has proposed elevating coal power generation to National Project status, aiming for completion by March 20, while the country also attracts investments for new data center projects, including a cloud region from Yandex in 2024. By 2026, the initiative is expected to yield 12.9MW of data center capacity and improved high-speed Internet access for 1,900 villages, aligning with the government's focus on digitalization and artificial intelligence.
