KDDI Corp. has launched a new AI data center in Sakai, Osaka, on the site of a former Sharp Corp. LCD plant, investing 10 billion yen in advanced Nvidia-powered servers for generative AI applications. Spanning 57,000 square meters and operating entirely on renewable energy, the facility aims to support the pharmaceutical sector by enhancing drug development and streamlining electronic medical records analysis. This transformation highlights Japan's commitment to leveraging AI for economic growth, with the center achieving a 60% reduction in electricity usage compared to previous technologies.
