LaPorte Approves Zoning Variance for New 65-Foot Data Center in Thomas Rose Industrial Park
DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE
The LaPorte Board of Zoning Appeals has approved a zoning variance for a new 65-foot data center at Thomas Rose Industrial Park, exceeding the existing height limits of 45 to 60 feet. Developer LaPorte 1, LLC argues that the additional height is necessary for air-cooled servers, while local residents raise concerns about property values and environmental impacts. The project, which follows a previous agreement with Microsoft, is expected to create 15 to 40 jobs per building, with construction anticipated to begin in late 2026 or 2027, pending further approvals.
