Madagascar's Digital Development Ministry Partners with Yas Madagascar for University Wi-Fi Hotspots
The Ministry of Digital Development, Posts, and Telecommunications of Madagascar signed a partnership agreement with Yas Madagascar to establish Wi-Fi hotspots at universities. The initiative will initially target the universities of Antananarivo, Toliara, and Toamasina, with plans to expand to others such as Fianarantsoa, Diégo, and Mahajanga.
The program aims to enhance digital access for students, with an expected rollout of 20 public sites by January 2026, including hospitals, airports, and libraries. The hotspots will provide high-speed internet access up to 1 Gigabit per second, with unlimited data for students available on a ticket system.
The minister emphasized the requirement for fiber optic infrastructure and quality connection monitoring. Additionally, the UNDP delivered a Digital Readiness Assessment report to support Madagascar's digital development, which includes plans for a national data center.
