Mayfield Borough Enacts Zoning Ordinance to Regulate Data Centers
Mayfield Borough has approved a new zoning ordinance aimed at regulating data centers in response to community concerns. The council, led by President Diana Campbell, voted unanimously on the ordinance during a recent meeting, emphasizing its role in protecting residents' health, safety, and welfare.
The ordinance establishes data centers as a conditional use in a designated C2 zone and sets specific regulations regarding height, noise, and distance. Although the borough has not received any data center proposals, the ordinance aims to provide a framework for future developments. The decision comes after consultations with county officials and in compliance with the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, which requires municipalities to zone for various land uses without outright bans.
