Metafuels Awards McDermott FEED Contract for Rotterdam e-SAF Production Facility
Metafuels has awarded McDermott a contract for front-end engineering and design (FEED) of its Turbe project, a synthetic sustainable aviation fuel (e-SAF) production facility at the Evos terminal in the Port of Rotterdam. This facility will utilize Metafuels' methanol-to-jet technology, aerobrew, to produce e-SAF compatible with existing aircraft.
The FEED phase is crucial before the final investment decision (FID), with McDermott responsible for defining and optimizing the plant's technical specifications and cost estimates. The project aims to support Europe's aviation decarbonization goals and will serve as a model for future e-SAF production.
Metafuels' process is expected to reduce lifecycle carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional kerosene. The Turbe facility is aligned with EU mandates, including ReFuelEU Aviation, to meet increasing e-SAF blending requirements starting in 2030.
